Some were transferred to cartoons and then onto squared up canvases for large works of art. Sketches were done in pencil, charcoal, ink, gouache, pastel and mixed media. They were constantly being reworked and developed. None of these have previously been displayed or made public in any way because of the obsessive secretive nature of the artist, constantly dissatisfied with everything he did.
